Certified PROFIBUS Installer

Michael Ulrich,
  • 14.10.2013

What good is competent network design, if the installation of the PROFIBUS® network is not properly carried out?
The installation technicians need to know what they are doing.
This two-day course covers theory and practice for the physical layer of a PROFIBUS® DP/PA installation and suitable procedures and tools
to check whether the network is working as well as it should.
The course ends with a test for certification from PROFIBUS® International (PI).
In many projects today the Certified PROFIBUS® Installer qualification is required
before the technician is allowed to work on the network site.

Goals
Need to be able to install, commission and troubleshoot the physical layer of PROFIBUS® DP and PA networks.
This course can help you avoid mistakes and save money in the installation phase of your project.

Theory:
Overview of PROFIBUS® technology and transmission technologies
Electrical characteristics of cable, signal quality

RS485 PROFIBUS® DP details
Cable specifications
Topology, segment lengths
Segment spurs
Connectors
Active termination
Repeaters and components

MBP PROFIBUS® PA details
What is the difference between PROFIBUS® DP and PA?
Power supply, coupler, link
Cable specifications
Topology, segment lengths
Connections
Termination

Practice:
Wiring of a bus segment
PROFIBUS® DP and PA
How is a signal measured?
What is a good, or bad, signal?
External influences on the bus cable
Cable placement
Grounding / shielding concept
Simulation of disturbance
Measurement with oscilloscope
Use of the latest tools
Creating audit protocols

Target audience:
This course is intended for everyone who has to install PROFIBUS networks
of PROFIBUS PA as well parts on DP.

For example:
Planners, Technicians, Installation Contractors,
Maintenance Technicians and Electricians involved in
installation and testing of PROFIBUS® DP and PA networks.

Prerequisites:
There are no prerequisites for joining the course, however, it is recommended that the attendee has
the knowledge about the following:

Terms which are common in the industrial automation
(PLC, remote, I/O, etc.)
Terms which are common in electrical engineering
(resistance, voltage, etc.)
Capable of working with Windows based application
